Chun Mei - YoungChun Mei (pronounced 'chewn may') was born in a small village in southwestern China in the beautiful, mountainous province of Yunnan (just south of the Himalayan foothills and Tibet).

While at the Chuxiong County Kintergarden (at three years old) a teacher noticed Chun Mei easily copying other students who were arduously training to apply for a coveted spot in the gymnastics classes. Noting her natural talent, her teacher recommended that she be accepted.

Within a year she rose to the top of her class, and just one year later she was awarded an unprecedented three gold medals at a county-wide gymnastics competition.

These accomplishments garnered the attention of Yunnan Acrobatics Campus, located in the capital city of Kunming, where she was recruited and given a spot. Between school and acrobatic training, she worked up to 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, for three years - at seven years old.

Performing with Andre HellerShe was soon recruited by China's prestigious Flag Circus at 10 years old because of her work ethic and natural talent. It was at the Flag Circus where she, her partner, and her coach invented a new trapeze act in 1993, using unprecedented tricks and techniques. Because of her previous experience as a gymnist, acrobat, and gold medal teeterboard artist, it only took them six months to create and perfect the act. It was this original act that brought her international fame.

At 12, she performed in her first international show in Tokyo. And in the next 12 years, her skills as a flawless and consistent artist brought her to 20 countries and hundreds of cities worldwide, performing for the King of Monaco, US President George Bush (Sr), and Chinese President Jiang Zemin, with over 60 performances at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Chun Mei was invited to countless international circus competitions and won medals at the Monte Carlo, Paris, and Budapest international circus festivals.

Chun Mei and her original trapeze act are featured on Cirque du Soleil's Emmy winning DVD, Dralion (2000).

Currently residing in China with her husband, Chun Mei will move to the United States in September 2007 to teach, give personal training, and provide classes and instruction on health and wellness.
